Ford CougarThe Ford Cougar was sold as a mid-sized coupé in the European market between 1998 and 2002. Taking it's name from a famous American muscle car, the Mercury Cougar, it was based on the large Mondeo family car available at the time. It premiered in December 1998 at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Introduced with a controversial "New Edge" design which was a departure from previous styling, and which was subsequently applied to most of the Ford range, the Cougar offered plenty of front seat room for two adults and reasonable accommodation for passengers in the rear. Cougar sales were never brisk, despite good reports of the model as a "driver's car".

Models available were:

  •  2.0i 16V
  •  2.5i V6 24V
  •  2.5i V6 24V Auto

Extra cost options were:

  •  "Quickclear" heated windscreen, with heated washer jets
  •  Automatic transmission and Cruise Control - V6 only
  •  Electric tilt and slide sunroof

The V6 model was also available in an "X-Pack" which included:

  •  Leather trim, heated front seats with drivers power adjustment
  •  AM/FM radio cassette - Model 5000N RDS EON with removable control panel, "Keycode" anti theft coding, 4 speakers and CD autochanger
  •  Metallic paint

Colours available were:

  •  Melina Blue
  •  Silver Frost
  •  Amazon Green
  •  Ebony Black
  •  Dark Tourmaline
